MDPL New Shooters Qualification Course

The course normally takes a full day with a break for lunch.

This course, an IPSC black badge or active Military/LEO credentials are a requirement for participating in MDPL matches.

Course participants must be CSSA members. The course is $50 + CSSA membership ($45) for a total of $95.

BEFORE THE COURSE YOU SHOULD
  1. Be able to hit a 8.5″X 11″ paper at 20m at your own time, with your pistol, 9/10 times
  2. Know how your pistol works and name its parts; slide lock, mag release, safety, etc.
  3. Be able to clean your pistol, including minor disassembly if required
Required Equipment:
  • ‘Stock’ handgun and 2 magazines ( 3 speed loaders or  magazines recommended)
  • Pistol belt – A sturdy belt made to carry a handgun. 1.5″ recommended.
  • Holster (no shoulder rigs, cross draw, appendix or speed/race type holsters)
  • Belt ammo carriers also recommended (i.e. mag pouches)
  • 200 rounds of ammo (minimum)
  • Concealment garment (vest, jacket etc…)
  • Eye & ear protection
The course will cover:
  • IDPA rules, and range commands
  • Range safety
  • Drawing from a holster, drawing from concealment
  • Target engagement
  • Shooting from cover, shooting on the move
  • Reloads (slide lock, reload with retention)
